This classic novel is about a young girl named Dorothy Gale who is swept away by a tornado from her Kansas farm to the magical Land of Oz. Dorothy and her dog Toto must follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City to find the Wizard of Oz, who can help her return home. Along the way, she befriends the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion, who each have something they lack and are looking for the Wizard to help them with. The Wizard promises to help Dorothy and her friends if they kill the Wicked Witch of the West.
